Available Goldens Golden of the week Goldens Available Soon Volunteers Needed SUPER SENIORS - Temporarily Waiving Adoption Fee (until August) Once again, rescue has had to take in several Super Seniors. These dogs still have lots of love to share! With so many dogs coming in to rescue right now, we are hoping that WAIVING THE ADOPTION FEE on these 10 and older goldies will help you consider giving them the happy ending they deserve. Available now are 14 year old Omi and 10 year old Lego. 10 year old Tess and 15 year old Sport will be ready soon. Please, read their stories and see if you can't open your home to one of these great goldens. We will be changing locations this year to give our repeat supporters a different course to try. We REALLY need your support at this event through volunteer time, sponsorships, raffle ticket sells, auction item donations and goodie bag donations. Please - tell your friends that are golfers to sign-up. Tell your friends that don't golf to purchase raffle tickets for the $2500 visa card (who couldn't use that for their Christmas vacation and gifts). This event benefits both DFW Lab Rescue and DFWM Golden Retriever Rescue. That's a lot of dogs counting on having their lives saved and medical needs met. This event makes a small dent in the $150,000 annually spent by these two organizations. So, please, take time to help promote this event, and don't forget to buy your raffle tickets. Today, I will ask you to check your pet. Are his shots past due? Is his heartworm prevention past due? Have you left that little tumor til tomorrow? TODAY, I SHED A TEAR I went to the shelter to rescue another, Through her matted eyes, she greeted me Her tail still wagging at the hope of a pat My hope for another happy ending Today, I learned you'd forgotten her 5 years without eye drops had left her nearly blind Tumors, painful to the touch, covered her Still her tail wagged Today, I watched her scratch Her severe allergies left her infected Her ears swollen nearly shut Still, her tail wagged Today, I hoped the vet would say With some TLC, she'll be back to play But with tear filled eyes I heard "cancer" Still, her tail wagged. Today, I shed a tear As I said good-bye to your pet For today was too late to help Her tail no longer wags. PLEASE, don't wait til it's too late to help your pet receive the care she or he needs to keep their tail wagging. Don't wait til tomorrow to get your pet in for an exam. Don't skip the meds your dog needs as you are a little tired or busy. Many people move, or go on vacations without making plans for their dogs. This year is no exception Emails to surrender dogs are coming in daily. We need your help to foster these dogs. Many of our volunteers also go on vacation in the summer If you don't want to foster full time, but could help out some during the summer, PLEASE Volunteer!! In spite of many fosters, we still spent over $20,000 on boarding fees last year. We need your help to reduce this expense, a few days or a few weeks can help. On June 21, we had 28 dogs; 21 different fosters. We are still paying to board 7 dogs a day. Can you PLEASE help? With so many new dogs at shelters and being surrendered soon, we will also need help transporting dogs. Sign up to be a part of our new SOS team! New Volunteers Meeting Jill Schilp is doing a great job as our new Volunteer Coordinator. She will be holding a volunteers meeting on the 2nd Sat of each month to introduce the new, but get together with the old too. Each meeting should have something extra -- March was tips on grooming feet and tails. Thanks to all who attended, Jill for organizing and Ann and Cora for the demo.
