BE A FOSTER AND SAVE A LIFE!

Foster homes make Rescue possible. Foster families take abandoned, unwanted, forgotten, sick, wonderful Golden beings into their homes and hearts and help them on the way to new forever families. FOSTERING IS WHERE IT IS AT!!

GOLDENS NEED YOU. This year we are seeing an ever increasing number of these wonderful souls being surrendered to Rescue, into shelters or left abandoned on the streets to fend for themselves. Our web site has many stories about these wonderful Goldens. A look at the Recently Adopted Photos show that happy new beginnings are made possible by all those connected with Rescue, but especially by the Foster Homes.

DFWMetro Golden Retriever Rescue is committed to helping as many Goldens as it can and so is trying to drastically increase the number of foster families taking Goldens into their homes. We will work with you to teach you the basics, but in reality it just takes a big heart.

Thinking about adopting a Golden? Wanting to know what one will exactly fit with your family and lifestyle? If you are thinking of adding a four legged furry companion to your home, fostering is a wonderful and very rewarding way to "shop" for that new family member. Perhaps you just would like to teach your children about compassion and helping others. If you support Rescue and do not have a pet of your own, great. There is always a need for a foster home for a Golden who is in isolation or is wonderful with people, but does not like other animals or cannot be around other dogs. Goldens give back so much love for the kindnesses given to them, the reward of fostering is seen daily.

Where have foster families come from before? From members, volunteers, former adopters and carrying people just like yourselves. Some have fostered a few and no more and others get "hooked" and continue to foster, taking time off for vacations and some down time. You are never on your own as there is a big support group within the foster community.

Some Goldens need an "in and out" home, some need a home for an extended period of time to go through such things as heart worm treatment, recover from injuries or simply to gain weight. The Foster Coordinator works with you to be sure you are matched with exactly the right situation. Rescue will provide you with exceptional items needed with each Golden's care. All of the Rescue Goldens have been to the vet, are current on shots, and have been thoroughly checked out.

What is needed to be a foster family besides a lot of love and compassion? Basically, you need to have a fenced yard and the dog will need to be kept confined in a yard or other enclosure at all times and will never be allowed to run free. Rescue will provide crates for use inside the home. The foster dog will spend the majority of its time inside your home and be made available and presented for adoption when an adoption has been arranged and, as possible, to come to adoption Saturdays to meet and greet while in your care. In the event that veterinary care is required while the dog is in your care, Rescue is responsible for costs. If for some reason the foster Golden does not work out or you can no longer foster, Rescue will find another foster home.

There is a need for foster homes as we have limited kennel space for Goldens if they do not have a foster family to join. If you are interested, please email to Info@RescueGoldens.org and the Foster Coordinator will contact you and answer any questions. We will meet with you, if needed, and go over everything you need to know. If you only foster once and decide it is not for you, THAT IS ONE MORE GOLDEN RESCUE HAS BEEN ABLE TO SAVE. In reality, all it takes to be a foster home is common sense, a lot of love and once you look into those eyes of one you have helped and seen the love and thank yous, you are rewarded so much more than words can ever describe.

SO, WON'T YOU GIVE FOSTERING A TRY??? Thank you from all the Goldens waiting to come into Rescue.
