2009 Board Members look forward to another great year of rescuing goldens.
With a rough economy, this will present some new challenges. The board meets
once a month, but actually corresponds daily to handle and oversee all the events
of rescue including, but not limited to, intake, medical treatment, fundraising,
foster and adoption of goldens in need. Let’s take a moment to meet the DFWMGRR’s
2009 Board of Directors and Officers.

Cindy Gildea, President
President since Mid 2007 and one of two permanent members of Rescue’s Board of
Directors. Cindy has been adoption coordinator since about 2000. In this role, she
is responsible for the adoption application approval and matching applicants and dogs.
Due to her great matching, at least 90% of the dogs are adopted on their first appointment.
Cindy is the central figure on Saturdays administering meds, removing sutures, implanting
microchips, greeting adopters and making sure all our dogs find happy forever homes,
She has fostered numerous dogs; specializing in caring for older dogs and those with
special needs in addition to assisting overweight dogs with losing weight. Cindy also
fills in anywhere someone else can't, attends basically EVERY event and adoption.
Ann Horton, Vice President
Ann holds one of the two permanent board
positions, has done a few things for rescue off and on since about the time it started,
but has been a very active volunteer for about 9 years now. Ann fosters many dogs,
including some of the more difficult or the one's that are very overweight or very
energetic. She has also raised litters of puppies for rescue. Ann calls on most of the
adoption applications. Both of Ann's kids, Mashala and Rayshel, help with fosters,
parades, Santa photos, and by doing demos at the annual picnic. Ann will be handing
off volunteer and special event coordination this year, but is taking on the
responsibility of updating the web site
Teresa King, Vice President
Teresa has been actively volunteering since 2000. She is an endless source of
information. Her husband is our
primary vet. While you're sitting on the couch with
your golden and your foster dog, enjoying a movie, Teresa will be helping spay or
neuter a dog, trying to save a leg by soaking it 4 times a day, whelping pups (she
said she would never whelp litters at her house), administering meds, guiding foster
homes through the latest medical problem, etc. When a long transport job is needed such
as Katrina, Teresa's on her way. Although not a full time foster home, she rarely has
a day without multiple rescue dogs in her care. We really couldn't afford all the
extra medical care that Teresa and Dr. King do that we don't get billed for. Teresa
also consults on temperament and training issues, evaluates dogs temperaments for
matching to applicants and makes the connections to other experts when needed for
adoptions or medical care.

Chris Geiger, Vice President
Chris joined DFWMGRR in 2007. She has stepped up to volunteer for anything we have needed,
even when she had no idea what she needed to do when she accepted the job. She helps
with adoptions, puts together the quarterly newsletter, helps with special events and
projects, and opens her home to foster
dogs needing a place to hang out for awhile. This year she will be working on writing
grants to help fund normal operations and special projects.

Julie Leopard, Vice President
Julie has been actively volunteering for over 3 years. Julie fosters as well as
participates in special events such as the golf tournament and ambassadogs. Currently
she is the Hotline Coordinator while also picking up messages twice a week. In addition,
she has taken on the job of Event Planning Coordinator where she, with the help of other
volunteers, will be making sure we have events planned throughout the year giving our
dogs the exposure they deserve.

Laurie Haggard, Secretary
Laurie first learned about DFW Metro Golden Retriever Rescue in June of 2008, after her
beloved Golden girl, Chelsea, died suddenly the day after Memorial Day. They had adopted
her from another humane society when she was about one year old, and had her for 13 great
years. She was such a good girl. She loved all people and other animals. After she died,
Laurie was in mourning and missed having a dog. As her kids were grown, she decided to
investigate getting involved with a rescue organization. Laurie started as a volunteer
in June, and has really enjoyed it. She agreed to fill in as Secretary on the Board of
Directors, and happily agreed to take over doing the weekly report. Laurie also tries to
make every adoption day to help where needed; and has enjoyed participating in some of
DFWMGRR fundraisers. Laurie also enjoys fostering when needed and is a big help transporting
dogs to vet appointments. In September of 2008, Laurie and Kent met
and adopted Romeo; it was love at first sight. He has filled the void that Chelsea’s
passing left. Laurie has greatly enjoyed her experience with DFWMGRR and looks forward
to many more years of being a part of this organization.

Sue Hayes, Treasurer
Sue has been volunteering for six years. Over the years, she has helped with many different
jobs in rescue. She fosters and helps with adoptions. As Treasurer, she deposits all
donations/payments, pays the bills, keeps the books, files the tax return and, in
general, handles all financial issues for the organization. Sue also handles and
distributes all mail coming into Rescue’s post office box and tracks financial and
statistical information on dogs for use in grant applications and membership meetings.
Sue creates a great spreadsheet that can be used by other volunteer positions for thank
you notes, database updates and other follow-up needs.

Chance, Mascot
Some Volunteer Positions
here are way too many jobs within rescue to list everyone and know we
aren't missing one person. Below are listed some of the bigger jobs outside of the
board and officer positions and the responsible volunteer. Every job is important,
so not being on this list is not intended in any way to say that job isn't a very
required and important job. We thank EACH and EVERY volunteer, no matter how big or
small their contribution.
