2008 DFWMGRR Annual Picnic

This picnic is a thank you to our adoptive families and volunteers

 

Date: Saturday, May 17th   (rain out date June 7th)

 

Location: Bethany Lakes Park, 745 South Allen Heights Drive, Allen, TX 75002 (Directions below)

            9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.    Check-in and Setup

            10:00 a.m. Opening Ceremonies and Parade of Rescues

            11:00 a.m. Grooming Demo

            11:30 a.m. Clicker Training Demo

            12:00 noon Lunch -- See Details below

            12:30 Games -- See rules and specific games below

 

Directions for May 17th:

Bethany Lakes Park 745 South Allen Heights Drive Allen TX 75002

From Hwy 75 exit Bethany Drive. Go east on Bethany approx 3-4 miles. Turn left onto Allen Heights (there is a light). The park will be the first road on the right. At the corner of Allen Heights & Bethany is the Allen Animal Shelter, a gas station, dry cleaner and a Kroger plaza.

The pavilion is off to the right of the children's play area with Horseshoe Lake surrounding it - it is kind of separate and on a slightly elevated area.

Parade of Rescues:     A brief presentation of goldens adopted from DFWMGRR.

            Each participant will receive a goody bag.

 

All previous adopters are invited to participate in the DFWMGRR annual celebration of our success stories. To participate, e-mail the following information to rescue@dfwmgrc.org with a subject of “Parade of Rescues Entry”

                        - Your name

                        - Your dog’s name

                        - When you adopted (approximately.)

                        - A few words about your dog (funny story, something they like, etc.)

Show us what a star your rescue is!

 

PLEASE signup your dog(s) by May 11th. To help us know how many goody bags we will need,

 

Lunch Details:

            For your convenience, we will be offering the following:

            $5.00 -The best Brisket in town, baked beans, potato chips and a brownie

            $3.00 -Hot Dog, baked beans, potato chips and a brownie

            Or feel free to bring your own.

            Lunches need to be pre-ordered to make sure we have enough food. 

            Volunteers, please email rescue for your lunch orders.

     All others, please click the PayPal Donation button to pay for your meal via paypal or email rescue to make other arrangements and order lunches.

 

RAFFLE:  We will have a basket or two to raffle.  Make sure you look for our raffle table.

 

Games:

            Sign up at check-in or during lunch.

 

            We’ve tried to come up with games that handle all types of training levels for you and your dogs.

Doggy Games:

There are some beautiful dog collars for prizes.

           

1) Obstacle course - a few low jumps with a little surprise rule. It will be fun for all, so please sign up.

2) Biscuit balancing - If your dog doesn’t do well, he or she will still enjoy getting a free treat.

3) Bobbing for hot dogs - pieces of hot dog will be put into a little bit of water.  Winner is the dog who leaves the fewest pieces of hot dog.

4) Dress your dog -- a bag with a few pieces of clothing will be at one end of the course, you will run to the bag, put the clothes on your dog and get back across the finish line.  The dog across the line first with all the clothes on will win.

5) Retrieve - Either balls in a tub or a theme such as bath time -- if bath time, put items in a circle, pool or ??, Dogs are to get as many items as possible in a time limit.

6) Hula Hoop jump -- dog is to jump through a hula hoop as many times as possible in 20 seconds.

 

For Kids:

Sponge relay -- split into two teams, team uses a sponge to transport water from one bucket to another, the team that transports the most water will win.   Each member of the winning team will win a small prize.

 

Cake Walk:  We should have a few cakes for a cake walk for those that don’t want to join in the other games.

 

Additional Fun:

This park was selected as it has a pond for your dogs to swim in and a playground for your kids to play in.
